How to crop a PDF

Three ways to set the crop box

  • Drag: pull a corner or an edge of the box, drag inside it to move it, or drag across the page to draw a new box.
  • Type: enter the top, bottom, left and right margins in inches, millimeters or points. The panel shows the page size after cropping.
  • Trim: click Trim white margins to fit the box to the content automatically.

Rotated and mixed-size pages

Margins always follow the page as you see it on screen: top is the top of the page, even on landscape pages, pages you rotated in the editor and pages that were rotated in the original file. When you crop several pages of different sizes, the same margins are cut from each one.

Frequently asked questions

How do I crop every page the same way?

In the Crop panel, set Apply to to All pages, or choose Odd pages, Even pages or a custom range such as 2-5, 8. The same margins are cut from each of those pages, and every page in the range shows the crop box so you can check it.

What does Trim white margins do?

It finds the text, images and drawings on each selected page and moves the crop box close around them, leaving a thin border. Every page is measured on its own, which is handy for scans and slides with uneven margins.

Is the cut-off content deleted?

No. Like Adobe Acrobat, cropping sets the visible area of the page (the crop box), so the hidden content is still in the file and the crop can be undone in other PDF tools. To remove confidential content for good, use Redact.

Can I change or undo a crop?

Yes. Press Ctrl+Z to undo it, or open Crop again: the whole page is shown with the current crop box, so you can adjust it or click Remove crop.

Do my text, signatures and highlights move when I crop?

No. Everything you added stays exactly where it is on the page. Search, highlights and Edit text keep working on cropped pages.
