How to merge PDF files

Combine a contract with its appendix, put several scans into one file or add a photo of a receipt to a report. The pages are joined in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

Do it now in the free PDF editorOpens in your browser. No sign-up, no watermark — your PDF is never uploaded.

Merge PDFs in four steps

  1. Open the PDF editor and choose the first PDF.
  2. In the Pages panel, point between two thumbnails (or below the last one) and click the + that appears.
  3. Choose Pages from a PDF… and pick the second file — or Image as a page… for a photo. You can also drop the files straight onto the +.
  4. Drag thumbnails to fix the order if needed, then click Download to save everything as one PDF.

Where the pages go

Every gap between two page thumbnails has its own + button, and there is one above the first page too. The new pages are inserted exactly there. The + on a thumbnail opens the same menu with a Before / After switch, so you can add pages right before or after the page you are looking at.

Typical ways to use it

  • Attach an appendix, a price list or terms and conditions to the end of an offer.
  • Join the front and back of a scanned ID or several single-page scans into one file.
  • Add photos of receipts to an expense report.
  • Put a signed page from one PDF into the full contract from another.

Edit the merged document

Added pages behave like all the others: you can sign them, add text, highlight, redact, rotate or delete them. Edit text and Find work on their text as well. When you download, everything is saved as one ordinary PDF that opens in every reader.

Password-protected PDFs can be added too: you are asked for the password, and the pages are added without the protection.

Frequently asked questions

How many PDFs can I merge?

As many as you like. Each file is added at the + you clicked, so you can build the document step by step. Very large files only depend on the memory of your device.

Can I merge only some pages of a PDF?

Add the whole file, then delete the pages you do not need with the trash button under their thumbnails. Deleted pages are left out of the saved file.

Can I add a JPG or a phone photo?

Yes. Choose Image as a page: the picture is placed on a new A4 page that matches its orientation, as an image you can resize and move.

What happens to links, bookmarks and form fields?

The pages, their text and images are kept exactly. Form fields of added PDFs keep their look but become part of the page, so they cannot be filled in afterwards; fill them in before merging.

Are my files uploaded to merge them?

No. Merging happens entirely in your browser. Your PDFs never leave your device.
